What to Bring

Grand Teton National Park is open year-round. Due to its close proximity to Yellowstone National Park, many visitors during the warmer months tend to visit both parks during the same vacation. Grand Teton supports a variety of activities from traditional mountain park hiking, walking, wildlife viewing, photography, backpacking, camping, climbing and fishing to swimming, boating, floating, canoeing and biking in the summer to skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the winter. Your selection of which clothes to pack and what gear to bring will depend on the time of year and the type of activity.

There is much to see and much to do in Grand Teton National Park. The most important thing to bring with you on any vacation is your sense of adventure, a positive attitude, and a healthy dose of curiosity.

The majority of the activities in Grand Teton involve explorations of the great outdoors. It goes without saying, that you should pack clothes, which are weather appropriate – warm clothes for winter activities and cooler clothes for summer activities. Regardless of the season, it is always wise to bring and USE sun screen and insect repellent and be sure to have at least one bottle of water for each person.

You do not need to be dressed in your finery for exploring the out-of-doors, so old clothes are good, as well as rain gear in the summer, as the weather is unpredictable, and a good pair of walking shoes or hiking boots.

What type of gear you bring will depend on the nature of your planned activities, the distance you have to travel and your mode of transportation. Many outfitters and guides supply equipment and will also give you advice on what to bring.
