Hiking //
Grand Teton National Park has a two-section hiking trail through Paintbrush Canyon. In fact, this hike is for experts only as it is very strenuous and requires some skill in survival and climbing. The trail is only reachable from above the main Teton Village, with access via the tram.
Once the tram has been taken above the Teton Village, expert hikers can enjoy Grand Teton National Park's Paintbrush Canyon Trail where hiking is not for the faint of heart. In fact, hiking this trail requires endurance and skill as the route is fairly steep and some climbing is required.
Paintbrush Canyon Trail heads towards the southern end of Paintbrush Canyon, providing stunning views. Guides and/or trail guides are highly recommended for this route, which takes hikers some two miles to the Colter Bay Nature Trail, three miles to the Taggart Lake Trail, one mile to Menor's Ferry and half a mile to Cunningham Cabin Trail before becoming independent near Jenny Lake.
The two main trails for the Paintbrush are from String Lake, covering twenty miles (roundtrip), and Holly Lake, covering twelve miles (roundtrip). The String Lake route is very hard, hiking up through Paintbrush Canyon, over its divide and into Cascade Canyon. The Holly Lake route is very difficult, heading directly through the Paintbrush Canyon, reversing through flower-filled meadows and retracing the original route.
