"It's a very good river for beginners," said Matt Tibbitts, a guide on the whitewater section of the Snake. "You go through whitewater, and then you hit a calmer section." The eight-mile ride through the canyon takes two to three hours and costs around $50 for adults and $35 for kids. Wet suits, rubber booties and gloves are available at most every outfitting service when the weather is a bit on the chilly side.
