In winter time, there are all sorts of activities in the snow. Jackson Hole skiing and snowboarding is world class with abundant dry powder and relatively few crowds. There are 8,000 acres of lift-serviced terrain spread over three very different resorts, plus the greatest sustained vertical drop in the U.S., a cool 4,128 feet!
Nordic Skiing here is unparalleled, especially if you're looking to escape the crowds, increasing your chances of spotting wildlife, and exercising muscles you barely knew existed in your body! Try cross country or skate skiing, both types of Nordic skiing are extensively available throughout Jackson Hole.
CHOICE FAMILY ACTIVITIES IN JACKSON HOLE
AERIAL TRAM
After allowing yourself a couple of days to acclimate to Jackson Hole's high altitude, ride the Aerial Tram up to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain, a 4,139 foot vertical rise. This way you and your family can get your bearings before you begin exploring this beautiful valley further.
TOWN SQUARE
The focal point of Jackson is its Town Square, featuring trademark antler arches which were built in 1968 using elk antlers shed on National Elk Refuge. In summer, watch the Town Square Shoot-Out - the longest running shoot-out in the country! The show starts at 5.15pm Monday to Saturday, and is free. Visitors form a square around the actors who are dressed in period costumes. Kids love it! After the show, grab a western-style dinner in one of the many nearby restaurants.
SNAKE RIVER
Take a float trip down Snake River and take some unbelievable pictures of the Teton Mountains. A float trip down Snake River in Grand Teton National Park is a great way to enjoy the park scenery and watch wildlife.
JENNY LAKE
Ride the shuttle boat on Jenny Lake. Children and adults alike are awestruck by the beauty of Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Jenny Lake is about one hour by car from the town of Jackson.
MOOSE HABITAT
Get up at sunrise and drive to the Moose Habitat on the Moose-Wilson road about 10 minutes from Teton Village. You are very likely to see a moose or even a bear. Bring your binoculars!
FLOWERS
Educate your children about nature by playing games where the whole family tries to identify different flowers growing in the park. But remember, the flowers are protected, so you cannot pick them.
Grand Teton National Park is home to 7 species of coniferous trees and over 900 species of flowering plants which grow in the Park's diverse habitats. Sagebrush is the most widespread, and more than 100 species of grasses and wildflowers grow here. Lodgepole pines dominate the Grand Teton National Park forests. Other plants include firs, aspens and spruces.
