This summer, don't just see the wild—become part of it.
You don't cross the country for Grand Teton just to stay inside—you come to feel something real.
That first breath of mountain air. The stillness of a sunrise over the peaks. The quiet excitement of spotting a moose in the distance. It's the kind of connection no itinerary can promise, and no hotel can replicate.
But even a place as wild and iconic as this doesn't stay that way on its own.
That's where Being Wild JH comes in. Led by the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation, this unique voluntourism program gives visitors to Jackson Hole the chance to spend part of their trip doing something that makes a real impact. From helping restore migration paths to assisting with bird conservation, it's a hands-on way to experience Grand Teton—while giving back to the land that gives so much in return.
No experience needed. Just a bit of your time, a little heart, and the willingness to connect with this place in a way most travelers never do.
Leave the Trinkets—Bring Home Impact
There's something unforgettable about pulling old barbed wire from the base of the Tetons. What might sound like simple labor is actually a powerful form of restoration—freeing up natural corridors for moose, elk, and pronghorn that depend on unbroken passage through the valley.
You'll be part of a small team making a big difference. It's active, rewarding, and oddly meditative. And yes, you'll probably walk away a little dusty.

Songbirds at Sunrise
If your pace leans more quiet wonder than trail grit, Bird Banding offers an intimate way to engage with Grand Teton's feathered residents. These early-morning sessions let you work alongside seasoned bird scientists as they monitor migratory songbirds. You might help record data, identify species, or gently release a tiny traveler back into the trees.
It's eye-opening, educational, and a favorite among families with curious kids—or anyone fascinated by the rhythms of nature.
🗓 2025 Bird Banding Sessions:
- July 23 | Kelly Campus | 8 AM – 12 PM
- August 7 | Boyles Hill | 8 AM – 12 PM
Spots are limited and fill quickly, so plan ahead.
Dig In and Make a Difference
Few activities let you play a direct role in preserving the ecosystem quite like invasive weed removal. These non-native plants spread quickly, crowding out the native wildflowers and grasses that local wildlife rely on for food and cover.
You'll spend a few scenic hours in the mountains with a shovel and some fellow volunteers, removing invaders by hand—no chemicals needed. It's simple, impactful work that's accessible to volunteers of all ages and experience levels.
🗓 Half-day projects run all summer | 2025 Dates Coming Soon
